木质手表创意 Wooden Word Watch

这款木质手表Wooden Word Watch 由美国哈佛大学电子光学与机械工程出身的Harnek Gulati制作，现在于Kickstarter接受群众集资。此手表最大特点是用英文句子显示时间，按一下机身旁边的表冠，表芯的里面的LED灯便会在适当地方着灯，形成一句完整的英文句子，例如“IT IS HALF PAST ONE”就等如现在是1时30分。

这个手表外型简单但却创意爆棚，木质制作的表盘，上面镂空着英文字母，里面就装有LED灯，没有指针，通过字母发光优雅而又特别地告诉你时间，穿上它逼格不是一般的高。

一般时钟或者手表，利用时针分针、电子跳字，或者现在智能手表的液晶显示屏来报时。不过有人就想回归原始，利用一句原始的英文句字显示时间，而这只手表名为“Wooden Word Watch”。它的设计原始气息十足，机身表面使用木头制造，配衬啡色皮制表带之外，手表画面部份雕铸了十行英文字母的小孔，时间报时会透过里面的LED灯，在小孔上显示出以英文句子显示的时间，相当有型。

在手表的原设计图当中，可看到QUATER、MINUTES，还有ONE、SIX、THREE等英文字以巧妙的方式刻在木板当中。制作者利用了雷射切割机在木板上刻画出所有字母。至于文字小孔后面的背光，就使用到LED灯。经过作者自己设计的电路，可以准确利用这些小灯泡报时。当然这只手表的表壳是从一块木材中雕削出来的。

This started off as a present for my roommate. I wanted to learn embedded C and CAD, so I built him the first prototype. But it was really fragile and didn’t really function as a watch as it only had a month long battery life. So I built my next roommate a better version, in Spanish, along with building myself one. I gave myself a deadline of presenting at the MiTxMake Fair, and went ham on building.

My first prototype was done by the MITxMake Fair and with only a few more iterations required before the second prototype, I prepared for my last roommate’s birthday. Unfortunately, I didn’t account for some low tolerances when I built her version and had to give it to her a few days later. She ended up liking it though!

The watch was then finalized. I spent a lot of money making those prototypes, but I’m finally happy and proud of the final design. I want to make more and see if others would like it (Like maybe you!). If you do, then please let me know.
